Vacuum Type is the most common form of degassing machine. Vacuum degasser can be horizontal, vertical or round vessel. Vacuum degasser can play a major role of removing small bubbles that a liquid film has enveloped and entrapped. In order for it to be released and break out the air and gas such as methane, H2S and CO2 from the mud to the surface, the drilling fluid must pass degassing machine and it can be accomplished by the solid control equipment called drilling mud degasser which is also a major part of a mud solids control system.

Solid control system is consist of five stages, including shale shaker, vacuum degasser, desander, desilter,drilling centrifuge.Vacuum degasser used as secondary stage solids control equipment.When air enters into the drilling fluids, vacuum degasser is used to separate the air. If no air in the mud, the degasser would work as a mud agitator. All these equipments are mounted on the top of the mud tank. After separating the solids, the clean mud would be pumped into the borehole again.
