In oil & gas drilling site, normal operation of any equipment is the basic guarantee for the efficient production. The following points is going to analyze the common faults caused easily in the daily processing as well as according solutions to deal with them.
1．Weak treatment capacity of solids control equipment.
When the equipment is not able to process the whole drilling mud fluids, part of the drilling mud will not be separated by the solids control system. Therefore the negligence of Mud Gun treatment capacity may lead to leakage of the drilling fluids. From this experience in the actual operation, this mistake must be taken into consideration in the operation site.
2. Cuttings separated from mud cleaner return to solids control system.
When Drilling muds after procession by all the solids control equipment in the system returns to the system entirely, it equals that nothing was separated and unnecessary work is done. Accounting for this phoneme, cuttings stopped on the screen must be got rid of clearly enough.
Vacuum Degasser
3. Vacuum degasser is installed backwards the hydrocones.
If the vacuum degasser is installed backwards equipment needing centrifugal pumps to feed mud, centrifugal pumps may be resisted by the air. Once air merges in to the drilling mud, drilling mud flow may be reduced and caused low working efficiency.
Mud Cleaner
4. Desider and desiler share one suction slurry tank
If desander and desilter share one suction slurry tank, half and half of the drilling mud will be processed by desander and desilter separately. In the case, half of the drilling mud will not be processed by the desander and another half will not be processed by desilter, which is against the principle of continuous process of drilling mud. Desander can not reduce the processing load for the desilter effectively.
Centrifugal Pump
5. Two centrifugal pumps feed drilling mud to one equipment by parallel connection.
This the most usual mistake easily occur in solids control system. The flow of the hopper nozzle is 25L/S under 30m pressure head, and they maintains the same when two centrifugal pumps are connected by parallel construction. Therefore, if centrifugal pump cannot meet the required pressure head, another pump should not be connected by a parallel construction and the pump should also be checked if it is in good condition or not. If the pump is in good condition but doesn’t meet required pressure head, bigger impeller needs to be changed in steady of the less one. After we used the bigger impeller, the motor power and the flow of centrifugal pump should also be increased.
